A great family destination, Au Poste de Traite (literally, "The Trading Post") offers pet-friendly lodging, a restaurant, a playground and a petting zoo, located just a few minutes' drive from Quebec City (la ville de Québec) in the village of Sainte-Famille.
The petting zoo includes foxes, emus, rabbits, swans and a large herd of red deer. Since Sainte-Famille is part of the large agricultural district of Île d'Orléans, Au Poste de Traite also caters to agritourists with a stall selling farm-fresh produce.
Visitors can admire the animals, wander the grounds, and then pause for lunch or dinner at the on-site restaurant. L'Auberge au Poste de Traite specializes in Canadian fare including venison and wild turkey, and visitors can enjoy their meal on the sunny terrace, which overlooks the mountains and the Saint Lawrence River (le fleuve Saint-Laurent). Tourists can even stay overnight in one of 10 bedrooms inside a converted barn. During apple season, overnight guests can pick their own fruit from Au Poste de Traite's trees.
