Cochon Dingue is a group of casual French-style bistros with several Québec City locations. Although it is a local restaurant group, each dining room has its own setting and neighborhood context, from Petit-Champlain to other parts of the city.
We returned more than once for the maple-barbecue ribs, but the practical strength of Cochon Dingue is its broad menu. It can work for a mixed group that wants bistro classics, comfort food and a relaxed atmosphere without committing to a long fine-dining meal.
What kind of restaurant is it?
Expect a Québec interpretation of the neighborhood bistro: breakfast and brunch items at some times, soups and salads, burgers or sandwiches, seafood, meat dishes and desserts. Which location should you choose?
Choose by itinerary, not by an assumption that one branch is always quieter. The Petit-Champlain location is convenient during an Old Québec day, while other locations may make more sense if you are driving or staying outside the historic center. Is it good for families?
Cochon Dingue has historically been one of our more comfortable family meals in Québec City. Our original visits stood out for the children’s choices and welcoming service. Menus and extras can change, however, so confirm the current children’s menu instead of expecting the old fixed price or toy giveaway described in earlier versions of this article.
