Cora crêpe burrito with eggs, vegetables, black bean patty, potatoes, salsa and sour cream in Quebec City

Cora Crêpe Burrito Review: A Breakfast Mashup That Just Works

The name Crêpe burrito sounds like it should be a novelty. We expected something a little odd.

Instead, it was one of those dishes that made sense almost immediately.

We tried it at Cora in Quebec City, and what surprised us most was how natural the combination tasted. The crêpe is softer and lighter than a tortilla, but it still does exactly what a burrito wrapper needs to do: hold the eggs, vegetables, cheese and filling together without taking over the plate.

What is in Cora’s Crêpe burrito?

Cora’s current menu labels the dish Burrito crêpe and lists eggs, a black bean patty, peppers, green onions, onions and cheddar cheese wrapped in a crêpe, with salsa and sour cream on the side. You can see the current description on Cora’s official menu.

The black bean patties were our favorite part. They give the inside more texture and make the breakfast feel substantial without relying on bacon or sausage. Combined with the eggs and vegetables, they also keep the filling from becoming one soft, uniform bite.

It sounds stranger than it tastes

That was really the funny part for us. A crêpe burrito sounds like someone combined two unrelated breakfast ideas simply because they could.

But eating it, there was nothing weird about it.

The egg, peppers, onions and cheddar already belong naturally in a savory crêpe. Salsa and sour cream push the flavor toward a breakfast burrito. The black bean patty connects the two ideas. The result tastes less like a gimmick and more like a breakfast dish that probably should have existed all along.

We loved it.

A very Cora kind of breakfast

Cora is not just another breakfast chain that happens to have locations in Quebec. The company began in Montreal in 1987, when founder Cora Tsouflidou bought a small diner in Saint-Laurent. Cora built its reputation around making breakfast more creative than the standard eggs-and-toast plate, and today the company says it has more than 125 restaurants across Canada. You can read the company’s history on Cora’s official site.

The Crêpe burrito fits that history nicely. It is playful, generous and a little unexpected, but it still tastes like breakfast.

Would we order it again?

Absolutely.

If you read “crêpe burrito” on the menu and hesitate because it sounds like too much of a mashup, that was our first reaction too. In practice, the crêpe makes a surprisingly natural wrapper, and the black bean patties are what make the whole thing work.

It ended up being much less strange than the name suggests — and much better than we expected.
