El Ceviche is permanently closed. Current restaurant listings mark the former restaurant at 184 rue Saint-Vallier Ouest as closed, and another restaurant now occupies the address.
This page preserves the meal we actually had and the role El Ceviche played in Quebec City’s food scene. It is not a current dining recommendation.
What El Ceviche was like
El Ceviche stood out to us because it felt personal.
The room was bright, the Peruvian décor gave the restaurant a clear identity, and the open kitchen made the meal feel connected to the people preparing it rather than to a generic concept.
Hospitality was the strongest part of the experience.
What we ate
Our meal included a beef empanada that tasted homemade, avocado filled with shrimp, a memorable quesadilla and Peruvian drinks.
Those dishes belong to the archive. They are not a menu for the restaurant now occupying the address.
That distinction matters because old restaurant photos and old menu pages can continue circulating long after the business itself disappears.
The restaurant is no longer operating
Current Quebec restaurant databases explicitly list El Ceviche as permanently closed.
If you find an old page showing hours, a phone number or a menu under the El Ceviche name, treat it as stale.
Do not travel to Saint-Vallier expecting the restaurant from this review to still be there.
Why the archive still has value
Restaurants such as El Ceviche also document a side of Quebec City dining that visitors can miss when they reduce the city to French food, poutine and maple syrup.
The city has long had a broader mix of immigrant-run and internationally influenced restaurants.
Preserving a genuine first-hand experience helps show that history without pretending the business is still current.
