L’Affair est Ketchup

L’Affaire est ketchup is a small unassuming restaurant located in the hip district of St. Roche, walking distance from the city walls of Quebec. Admittedly, it looks very run down or one can say it has a rustic cozy charm. You can easily walk by the storefront and not even notice it’s there. We were thrown a little bit by the name as there is no ketchup involved but our nice server explained that L’Affaire est Ketchup is an old quebecois saying meaning all is good, and indeed all was good.

describing each dish. The servers also made excellent wine recommendations. Each dish was creatively plated and a variety of herbs and greens indigenous to the area are used. I had roasted eggplant as an appetizer and it was perfectly prepared, seasoned and buttery in texture. My daughter had the bison tataki, thinly sliced bison flash seared, which was very flavorful. The octopus was tender without being too soft. The pork dish was delicious as well. The desserts we had were a hazelnut chocolate brownie and a salted caramel pound cake. The brownie was served warm and was fudge-like. The pound cake was very buttery and had their perfect amount of sweetness.
