If you are from New York, there is a very specific kind of pizza craving that is hard to explain until you are away from home: a big, foldable slice, sold by the slice, with just enough crispness underneath and the feeling that you can grab it and keep moving.
Bottega Épicerie & Pizza New-Yorkaise in Vieux-Québec comes closer to that New York experience than anything else we have tried in Quebec City.
We visited the Old Quebec location at 28 Côte de La Fabrique, and even the setup has some of that familiar New York energy. It is casual, compact and easy to walk into for a slice rather than feeling like every pizza meal has to become a full restaurant production.
The pizza really does feel New York-style
The biggest difference is the format. Bottega sells pizza by the slice, exactly the way we are used to seeing it in New York. The crust is thin enough to fold, the slice has some structure, and the overall experience is much closer to a New York pizzeria than to a traditional Neapolitan restaurant.
Some of the toppings also give it a Quebec City personality rather than simply trying to copy New York. That is part of what makes it interesting: the foundation feels familiar, while some of the combinations feel local.
For us, Nina Pizza Napolitaine is probably still our favorite pizza in Quebec City, but it is a completely different comparison. Nina is the place we think of for an authentic Italian, Neapolitan-style pizza. Bottega is where we would go when we want something that reminds us of a New York slice.
The surprise was the seafood arancini
The pizza was good, but the dish we kept talking about afterward was the seafood arancini. It may have been the best arancini we have ever had. The outside was crisp, the inside was rich without becoming heavy, and the seafood filling made it feel much more distinctive than the version we usually encounter.
It was one of those side dishes that unexpectedly becomes the reason you want to return.
A little bit of New York in Old Quebec
Bottega works especially well because it does not feel like a theme restaurant trying too hard to imitate New York. It simply gets several of the details right: slices at the counter, a relaxed atmosphere, pizza that folds the way you expect it to, and enough personality in the toppings to keep it connected to Quebec City.
If you want Italian pizza in the more traditional sense, Nina remains one of our go-to choices. If you are looking for the closest thing we have found to a New York slice in Quebec City, Bottega is the place we would start.
