We first ate at La Pizzaio in 2014, when the family restaurant was on rue Saint-Paul near Quebec City’s Old Port. That address is now history, but the restaurant is not.
La Pizzaio moved to 1282 Avenue Maguire in 2024 and is still operating there. Its official website is the place to check the current menu, opening hours and reservations before you go.
The meal below is our original experience at the old location. I am keeping the firsthand details because they are real, while separating them from the practical information you need today.
Where La Pizzaio is now
The current restaurant is on Avenue Maguire in the Sillery area, not on rue Saint-Paul. If you remember La Pizzaio from the Old Port, or find an older review that still points there, do not head to the old address.
The 2024 move gave the restaurant a new dining room, but I would still verify current hours and availability directly before building an evening around it. Restaurant schedules change too easily to treat an old timetable as permanent.
As of September 2026, La Pizzaio’s own site lists lunch service Tuesday through Friday, dinner Wednesday through Saturday, and closures on Sunday and Monday. It also says the restaurant has operated since 2012 and moved to Avenue Maguire in 2024. I would still confirm the schedule before leaving, but those current details make the new location easier to plan around than the old review alone.
Our 2014 meal on rue Saint-Paul
What I remember most was not a giant dining room, an elaborate concept or a celebrity-chef presentation. It was personal.
Marco and his mother made the meal feel like a neighborhood restaurant experience instead of another tourist transaction. That kind of service stays with you longer than a menu description.
Pizza was the center of the meal. The crust had a crisp, cheese-edged quality that gave it more texture than the softer Neapolitan pies that have become common around Quebec City.
I cannot tell you that a pizza ordered today will be identical to what we ate in 2014. Kitchens evolve, menus change and the restaurant itself has moved. What I can describe is the meal we actually had.
The dessert pizza we still remember
The surprise of the visit was a dessert pizza made for our daughter with dried apricots and chocolate sauce.
It was the sort of spontaneous restaurant moment that sticks with a family. We did not go in expecting it, and that is probably why it became the part of the meal we remembered years later.
That does not mean the same dessert is on the current menu. It means the old review still has value as a record of the hospitality and cooking we experienced at that time.
What to know before visiting today
The current La Pizzaio website still presents it as a family pizzeria serving both classic pizzas and original creations. Use that current source for what is available now rather than treating our 2014 dishes, prices or old location as a promise.
If you are staying in Old Quebec, also factor the new location into your transportation plans. Avenue Maguire is outside the compact Old Port walking circuit where the restaurant used to be.
If you are exploring the Old Port
Rue Saint-Paul is still worth walking even though La Pizzaio has moved. The surrounding area remains part of the Quebec City Old Port, with restaurants, antique shops and easy connections toward Lower Town.
