Grilled shish taouk sandwich with salad and stuffed grape leaf at Restaurant Le Roi de Shish Taouk in Quebec City

Restaurant Le Roi de Shish Taouk – A Quick Saint-Roch Stop

On Rue Saint-Joseph in Saint-Roch, Restaurant Le Roi de Shish Taouk is the kind of place that works when you want something quick and easy without feeling like you settled for generic fast food.

The staff was friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the whole place had a small, independent, almost mom-and-pop feel. There are plenty of choices on the menu, including vegetarian options, so it works well when everyone in a group wants something a little different.

The grilled sandwiches stood out

What we liked most was the grilled sandwich. It had a nice char from the grill without being overcooked, and the ingredients inside still tasted fresh rather than getting steamed into softness.

That mattered especially with the salad. The lettuce still had crunch, which gave the sandwich a much fresher texture than you sometimes get with a hot wrapped sandwich.

A convenient Saint-Roch stop

Part of the appeal is simply how easy it is. Its Saint-Joseph Street location makes it a convenient stop while you are walking around Saint-Roch, and the service felt fast without being rushed.

Who this works best for

I would think of Le Roi de Shish Taouk as a practical Saint-Roch meal rather than a destination where you need to build the whole evening around the restaurant. It worked for us because the service moved quickly, the room felt clean and welcoming, and the food still had texture and freshness when it reached the table.

That makes it useful when you are already walking Rue Saint-Joseph, want a casual lunch or dinner, or have a group that does not all want the same thing. The vegetarian choices mattered for that reason too: there was enough range that the stop did not feel built around a single order.

Why the texture mattered

The nicest detail was the contrast between the grilled exterior and the fresh vegetables inside. A hot sandwich can easily turn soft once it is wrapped, but ours still had crisp lettuce and a satisfying grilled edge. That is a small thing, but it is the detail that made the meal feel freshly assembled rather than simply fast.

Our take

Restaurant Le Roi de Shish Taouk is not trying to be complicated. It is friendly, clean, quick and has enough variety to make it useful for a casual lunch or dinner. The grilled sandwiches are the reason we would go back: nicely grilled, not dried out, and still fresh and crunchy inside.

For a simple meal on Saint-Joseph Street, it is an easy place to keep in mind.
