Veravin on Rue Saint-Jean offers an interesting combination: soft jazz, a cool atmosphere and a surprisingly kid-friendly experience. Our meal was mixed, but there was one standout.
The poutine was the highlight
I ordered the Drooling Poutine, with marinated steak and a delicious red wine sauce. It was easily my favorite part of the meal. The sauce made it a particularly enjoyable take on poutine.
A surprisingly kid-friendly atmosphere
The soft jazz and ambiance almost contradict how welcoming the restaurant is to families. There was a children’s menu, and the two children dining with us really enjoyed themselves. I liked that it had a cool vibe without feeling like a typical kids’ restaurant.
The onion rings fell short
The onion rings were just OK. I expected bigger, substantial batter-fried rings. Although they were battered, some seemed to have hardly any onion inside.
Asian tuna tartare: fine, but not memorable

We also tried the Asian tuna tartare. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t spectacular either. It was an OK dish that didn’t particularly stand out.
Would we return?
The menu itself had plenty of cool options, and the children enjoyed their meals. I appreciated the atmosphere and the excellent steak poutine, even if the other dishes were less impressive.
Would I go out of my way to visit? Probably not. But if you’re strolling along Rue Saint-Jean and you’re hungry, I would definitely consider stopping in. It’s a pleasant, family-friendly option with a cool vibe and a few interesting dishes.
