Summer: best for festivals and long days
June through August is the easiest season for patios, walking and day trips. It is also one of the busiest and most expensive periods. Reserve hotels and major dinners early if your dates overlap Festival d’été de Québec or a holiday weekend.
Autumn: best for colour and comfortable walking
Late September into October can combine crisp weather with fall foliage in the region. Peak colour varies by elevation and year, so do not plan around one guaranteed weekend. Evenings cool quickly.
Winter: best for atmosphere
December through February brings snow, holiday decorations, skating and Quebec Winter Carnival. It can also mean deep cold, wind, ice and storm disruptions. Pack for exposed skin, not merely the temperature shown in an app.
Spring: best for lower crowds
April and May are transitional. You may find lower room rates and quieter streets, but snowmelt, rain, bare trees and freeze-thaw conditions can affect outdoor plans. Later May is generally more reliable than early April.
