Cassis Monna & Filles

Ile d’Orléans, just a stone’s throw from Quebec City, has always been one of our favorite spots to visit. And on this particular trip, we stumbled upon a hidden gem that added a delightful twist to our island escapade – Cassis Monna et Filles. It’s the kind of place that once you discover it, you can’t help but fall head over heels in love with its unique charm and  offerings.

A Berrylicious Welcome

As we crossed the bridge to the island, we made a left turn and found ourselves at the doorstep of Cassis Monna et Filles. What an incredible location! The St. Lawrence River was a breathtaking backdrop to our adventure. Parking right out front made it even more convenient to explore this culinary haven.

As we walked in, we were immediately captivated by the place’s open-air design, offering a spectacular view of the river and the surrounding area. It’s the kind of setting that sets the mood even before you sit down. We were lucky to snag a table on the gorgeous balcony, where we could fully savor the ambiance.

A Unique Twist: Everything’s Better with Cassis

Now, here’s the kicker – everything at Cassis Monna et Filles incorporates cassis (black currant) in some way or another. And let me tell you, it’s an experience you won’t forget. My husband and I decided to forgo the traditional route of ordering separate main courses and instead opted for a shared adventure with popcorn chicken and poutine.

The popcorn chicken was a revelation. Light, fresh, and accompanied by an aioli infused with cassis, it was a taste explosion that left me contemplating a second serving. Served in a charming mason jar with the sauce on the side, it was perfect for the scenic river view and the gentle breeze.

Now, onto the poutine – I have to say, I’ll never eat poutine anywhere else again. This is the poutine of all poutines, and the gravy? You guessed it, it’s made with cassis. It was a flavor symphony that danced on our taste buds, and we couldn’t get enough of it.

Cassis in Every Sip

My husband decided to elevate his experience with a sangria infused with cassis, and he absolutely loved it. It’s the kind of drink that perfectly complements the cassis-inspired menu and adds an extra layer of indulgence to your meal.

More Than Just a Restaurant

Cassis Monna et Filles isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a whole experience. After our delightful meal, we couldn’t resist the temptation to explore even further. We made our way to the museum out back, where we learned about the history of the place and the art of harvesting black currants in the region. And of course, we couldn’t leave without visiting the boutique located directly under the restaurant – a treasure trove of all things cassis.

Feeling quite full from our scrumptious lunch, we decided to cap off our visit with a sweet treat. So, we headed to the ice cream place conveniently located nearby. It was a popular spot for diners and island explorers alike, but we couldn’t resist trying some of their homemade cassis ice cream. It was the perfect ending to our culinary adventure on Ile d’Orléans.

A Gem of Ile d’Orléans

In conclusion, Cassis Monna et Filles is truly a hidden gem on Ile d’Orléans. It’s the kind of place that will make your visit to the island even more memorable. So, when you plan your trip to this picturesque spot, be sure to include Cassis Monna et Filles on your list of must-visit places. You’ll thank us later.

We, for one, are already planning our return trip. Merci bien, Cassis Monna et Filles, for a deliciously unforgettable experience!
