What Zolé was
Zolé was a casual Mexican restaurant that gave visitors a break from the French, Québécois and steak-heavy menus that dominate many tourist itineraries.
That contrast mattered to us. After several days of rich food, a completely different flavour profile could be exactly what the trip needed.
The archival photo on this page comes from that earlier visit and remains part of the story.
Why this page is now an archive
Both Quebec City locations associated with the Zolé name are now listed as permanently closed. The former 1200 rue Saint-Jean location and the former 2336 chemin Sainte-Foy location should not be treated as active restaurant destinations.
That means old hours, phone numbers, menus and prices are historical information only.
If an old directory still shows opening hours, do not assume the business is operating. Closure status matters more than a stale timetable.
What the original experience was like
Zolé was casual rather than formal. What I remember most was the usefulness of the meal within the trip: it offered a different cuisine, a relaxed format and an easy reset after several heavier restaurant days.
I would rather preserve that genuine experience than rewrite it into a fake current review.
Restaurants change too quickly for that. Ownership, menus, locations and entire concepts can disappear while old search results keep circulating.

Restaurants are part of local history. They show how visitors and residents ate at a particular time, and they often disappear much faster than the neighborhoods around them.
Zolé still belongs in that history. It just should not send anyone across town looking for a restaurant that is no longer there.
