McDonald's McShaker Fries in Canada

McDonald’s McShaker Fries in Canada, a 2024 Promotion Archive

Archive notice: McDonald’s Canada launched McShaker Fries nationwide on June 18, 2024, as a limited-time promotion. The four-flavour offer has ended and is not listed on the current Canadian menu.

How McShaker Fries worked

Customers received an order of fries, a separate packet of seasoning and a larger bag. The idea was to pour in the seasoning, close the bag and shake until the powder coated the fries. Keeping the flavour packet separate let people control how much seasoning they used and turned an ordinary side order into a small table activity.

The method was simple, but it changed the experience. A light shake left some fries nearly plain; vigorous shaking spread more seasoning and tended to collect powder in the corners of the bag. Sharing one order also meant agreeing on a flavour before anybody started shaking.

The four Canadian flavours in 2024

The launch lineup included Churros, Masala, Ramen and Tzatziki. Those names described seasoning profiles rather than complete versions of the dishes that inspired them. Churros leaned sweet, while the other packets drew on savoury spice, noodle-seasoning and herb-forward cues.

That mix was the promotion’s main hook. Instead of releasing one national flavour, McDonald’s gave customers very different directions to compare. The sweet Churros option was especially unusual because Canadians normally expect fast-food fries to stay firmly on the salty side of the menu.

Where the idea came from

McDonald’s said the McShaker Fries format had first appeared in Hong Kong in 2005 before reaching other markets. Seasoned shaker fries have since become a recurring limited-time concept in several countries, with local flavour packets changing by market and campaign.

The Canadian version therefore was not a permanent redesign of the chain’s fries. It was an adaptation of a promotional format McDonald’s could bring into a market, vary and retire without changing its core menu.

What remains available now

The dates and flavours on this page describe the 2024 Canadian launch only. As of September 21, 2026, the four McShaker seasonings are not listed on the current McDonald’s Canada menu. Availability can differ by location and limited promotions can return, so the official menu or app is the right place to check before visiting.

Regular fries remain on the menu, and Quebec locations can offer poutine and regional limited-time items. If the shaker format returns, do not assume it will use the same four flavours or the same national release plan. Promotions change quickly and can vary by participating restaurant.

Why keep an archive of a fast-food promotion?

Limited menus capture a small part of food culture: how global companies adapt ideas for local audiences, how social media turns a seasoning packet into an event and how quickly “new” items disappear. This article preserves what the 2024 Canadian promotion actually included without pretending it is still available.
